I attended Waldrip Center for Therapeutic Massage, Inc. I completed 700 hours total.

Science of the Human Body – 200 Hours total includes:

ANAT 1: 100 hours of Anatomy and Myology/Kinesiology: Special emphasis is placed on the muscular and skeletal systems, the basis of the massage therapy program. Students will learn how to identify each muscle, its insertion & origin, and its function.

PHYS 1: 80 hours of Physiology: This course involves learning the function of the body from a microscopic level (chemical & cellular) to its gross level (organism). Special emphasis is placed on the nervous, cardiovascular, and lymphatic systems as they relate to the practice of massage.

PATH 1: 20 hours of Pathology, including medical terminology: This course involves learning diseases and disorders as they relate to the practice of massage. Students will be prepared to identify any contra-indications for massage therapy.

Massage Theory Practicum – 200 Hours total includes:

MTP 1: 190 hours of Massage Theory and Practicum: This subject begins with foundational massage techniques necessary to developing a successful massage therapist such as Swedish massage and Deep Tissue Massage. Students will learn the history of massage & the philosophy behind it, benefits & effects of massage, career opportunities & business practices, and a wide variety of massage techniques. Students develop the skills related to depth of touch and sensitivity through learning a set of full body massage routines. Range of motion movements, stretches, table use, draping methods, and proper body mechanics will be explored and perfected. Students will also learn how to focus on self-care for the massage therapist through health, wellness, and stress reduction. LAW 1:10 hours of Legalities including MS Massage law and ethics.

Allied Modalities – 200 Hours total includes:

AM 1: 118 hours of Allied Modalities: This includes introductions to a variety of techniques that may be further explored postgraduate. Shiatsu, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral, Infant Massage, Elderly Massage, Polarity, Pet and Equine Massage, as well as others will give WCTM graduates an opportunity to develop their professional interests. Federal requirements for special needs populations will be covered including Americans with Disabilities Act. CPF 1: 8 hours CPR, First Aid and HIV: This course will be administered by an employee of the American Heart Association.

HYD 1: 25 hours of Hydrotherapy/ Infrared Heat: This course involves studying the theory and practical application of water for healing. Safe ranges of temperatures and proper use of heat packs, paraffin baths, body wraps, hot stone massage, exfoliations, and others will be explored.

CDR 1: 30 hours of Charting, Documentation and Referral: Students will learn and utilize industry standard forms for charting and documentation of all massage sessions including Intake Forms and SOAP Notes. Students will be educated in what to do in situations where a medical release is required before a massage. Also students will learn how to identify when a condition exceeds the scope of practice for a massage therapist and a referral to an appropriate health care professional is needed.

REV 1: 16 hours of Comprehensive Review: Thorough review to prepare student to pass the State Comprehensive Exam and Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx).

EXAM 1: 3 hours of comprehensive examination: Students sit for the State Comprehensive Exam and MBLEx.

Clinical – 100 Hours total includes:

CLIN 1: 100 in-lab hours: Students will perform a minimum of 50, one-hour massage sessions. Students will document sessions with each client using standard practices for Intake Forms and SOAP Notes. Classroom hours will be spent with the instructor to enhance the learning experience for a total of 100 hours. Licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Massage Therapy, License No. 08 10.
